Modesto Torcuato López López

Modesto T. López López is Professor of the Department of Applied Physics of the University of Granada (UGR). He graduated in Physical Sciences (UGR) in 2001, and obtained his Ph.D. degree (UGR) in 2005, with a thesis in the field of magnetorheology. From 2006 to 2008 he was postdoctoral fellow at the Laboratoire de Physique de la Matière Condensée (LPMC) in France. In 2008 he joined the Department of Applied Physics of the UGR with a position of the Program of Incorporation of Doctors of the UGR (competitive program). He became Associate Professor of Applied Physics in August 2012 and Professor of Applied Physics in October 2019.

His teaching activity has been developed mainly in General Physics, Classical Mechanics, Mechanical Waves, Environmental Physics and Rheology at the undergraduate level, as well as Design and Characterization of Nanomaterials and Rheology, at the master’s level.

His research interest involves magnetic field-guided smart materials, spanning the synthesis and characterization of magnetic nanoparticles, magnetic field-guided self-assembly, and preparation and physical (with emphasis in mechanical) characterization of magnetic fluids and gels (ferrofluids, magnetorheological fluids, ferrogels). He also develops his research work in the field of the preparation and mechanical characterization of biomaterials for tissue engineering applications.

More information about his research activities can be found in his personal website.
